It’s the time of year in New York where most of us prefer the indoors. I’m a big believer in the physical and mental benefits of fresh air but in the winter, we spend a lot more time inside. Recently, “play spaces” have become popular. They’re basically spaces(varying degrees of size) where you can take your toddler to play indoors. They get you out of the house and a change of scene and a chance to socialize. The best part, maybe, is that you don’t have to clean anything up! The play spaces usually have a variety of toys and things to climb on or ride on. They’re fun for the kids because they get to experience things you might not have at home. Also, for some reason, toys at home seem to be less attractive to toddlers. When they come to these “play spaces,” they get out a lot of energy. You pay a fee per visit, so unlike a class, for example, there’s no commitment. These seem to be exploding on Long Island, so I will have to update out list, but a few we’ve visited are:
A great free option is the public libraries (you can take your child to play even if you’re not a member which allows you to visit as many libraries on the island as you want). The only downside is kids can’t be as crazy and loud in the library.
